Zusammenfassung
Begibt man sich in Gespräche mit bildungsbenachteiligten Jugendlichen und fragt sie nach ihren Schulerfahrungen und Berufsaussichten, so stellt man als Jugendforscherin schnell fest, dass die meisten zwar wissen, was ihnen in ein paar Jahren auf dem Arbeitsmarkt blühen wird, aber die wenigsten übersehen die Tragweite ihrer Schulwahlentscheidungen im Licht globaler gesellschaftlicher Wandlungen und widersprüchlicher Entwicklungen. Das wäre auch zu viel verlangt, tun dies doch kaum ihre Lehrer und Erzieher. Gleichzeitig herrscht seit über zehn Jahren Aufbruchstimmung in Europa, wenn es um Bildung geht. Visionen zu Gesellschaften, deren Mitglieder ihr Leben lang lernbereit sind und sich ununterbrochen weiterqualifizieren, werden in einem Strom von Bildungsinitiativen und Plänen entwickelt, auf allen Niveaus: dem der Europäischen Union, der OECD in groβangelegten Leistungs-Teststudien (PISA ist die prominenteste; Meyer und Benavot 2013) und auch in den einzelnen Mitgliedsländern.
