Zusammenfassung

Demokratieförderung ist ein nationales und internationales Handlungsfeld staatlicher und nichtstaatlicher Akteure zur Unterstützung und Durchsetzung politischer und gesellschaftlicher Demokratisierungsprozesse. Unter internationaler Demokratieförderung werden diejenigen policies und Maßnahmen verstanden, die Akteure außerhalb ihres Territoriums oder Hauptsitzes in einem Staat zu implementieren versuchen. Zudem wird sie in bestehenden Demokratien zur nachhaltigen Stärkung der demokratischen politischen Kultur angewendet. In letzterem Fall ist Demokratieförderung Teil der Innenpolitik, während sie sonst in der Außen- und Entwicklungspolitik zu verorten ist.
