Globaler Wettbewerb und komplex strukturierte Wertschöpfungsprozesse, zusammengesetzt aus diversen hochspezialisierten Akteuren, stellen den Standard der Wertschöpfung im einundzwanzigsten Jahrhundert dar. Dennoch identifiziert Porter (1998, S. 77-78) “Paradoxically, the enduring competitive advantages in a global economy lie increasingly in local things - knowledge, relationships, and motivation that distant rivals cannot match […] innovation and competitive success in so many fields are geographically concentrated.”
