Zusammenfassung
„Trauer ist der Preis, den wir für die Liebe zahlen“, so die Aussage der PsychologInnen Parkes und Prigerson (2011: 6). Trauer kann ebenfalls als „cost of commitment“ (Parkes und Prigerson 2011: 6) verstanden werden, als Kosten der psychischen und sozialen Bindung an andere Menschen. Solange es intime und soziale Beziehungen gibt, Liebe und Freundschaft, konstituiert sich Trauer als eine Emotion des Verlusts. Sie ist eine elementare, menschliche Erfahrung und „normale“ Reaktion auf den Tod einer/eines signifikanten Anderen (Horwitz und Wakefield 2007; Archer 1999). Trauer nach dem Tod stellt dabei eine prototypische Verlustreaktion dar, die ebenso auf andere Verluste, wie Scheidungen, Ende einer Freundschaft oder einen Wohnortwechsel übertragbar ist. Erkenntnisse über Trauer nach dem Tod liefern uns damit die Grundlage für die Interpretation anderer Verluste (vgl. Marris 1986: 23).
