Zusammenfassung
Entwicklungstheorien haben sich vornehmlich mit den Ursachen sozioökonomischer und politischer Entwicklung – Modernisierung – in den Regionen Afrikas, Asiens und Lateinamerikas beschäftigt. Die jeweiligen Trends und Strömungen weisen dabei starke Parallelen zu übergeordneten sozialwissenschaftlichen Debatten wie auch zu den großen Trends im internationalen System auf. Mit der zunehmenden Heterogenität der Entwicklungsländer, der zunehmenden globalen Herausforderungen und der Verbreitung anspruchsvoller Methoden der empirischen Sozialforschung verliert die traditionelle politikwissenschaftliche Entwicklungsforschung jedoch immer stärker ihre Eigenständigkeit.
