Zusammenfassung
Die neurophysiologischen Untersuchungsmethoden mit objektiver Registrierung haben sich erst in den letzten 10 Jahren als diagnostische Routinemaßnahmen in die neurologische Klinik eingeführt. Vordem beschränkten sie sich auf die klassische Elektrodiagnostik, die sich meist mit der Beobachtung der Reizeffekte begnügte. Die jüngste und wichtigste Methode, das Elektrencephalogramm (EEG) ist in der letzten Auflage dieses Handbuchs überhaupt noch nicht erwähnt, während das EEG heute in jedem Kapitel über Hirnerkrankungen seinen Platz hat. Vor dem Krieg waren Jena, Berlin-Buch und Freiburg die einzigen deutschen Nervenkliniken, in denen ein EEG-Apparat stand, der für die klinische Diagnostik verwendet wurde. Damals galt das EEG noch als eine theoretische Spezialmethode für Elektrophysiologen, von der man noch keine praktische Verwertbarkeit erwartete. Jetzt gehört das EEG in allen Kliniken ebenso notwendig zur neurologischen Diagnostik wie die Röntgen- und Liquoruntersuchung. Die anderen neurophysiologischen Hilfsmethoden wie die Nystagmographie und Elektromyographie haben sich noch nicht allgemein eingeführt. Sie sind aber wichtig für Hirnstammläsionen, spinale und periphere Nerven- und Muskelerkrankungen und bilden damit eine gute Ergänzung zum EEG, das nur die Tätigkeit oberflächlicher Hirnregionen erfassen kann. Beide Methoden werden daher mit ihren wichtigsten Anwendungen dargestellt. Ergänzend werden sonstige myographische Methoden sowie die Registrierung vegetativer Funktionen und des Liquordrucks nur kurz beschrieben.
