Zusammenfassung
Die Bekämpfung der Kriminalität gehört allgemein zu den Aufgaben einer Regie-rung. Zumindest in Großbritannien erfolgt von offizieller Seite die Reaktion auf Kriminalität durch die Strafgerichtsbarkeit und deren Behörden - Polizei, Ge-richte, Bewährungshilfe, Haftanstalten. Bis etwa Mitte der 60er Jahre leisteten sie, hauptsächlich durch ihre abschreckende oder entkräftende Wirkung, den größten Beitrag zur „offiziellen“ Verbrechensvorbeugung. Während der letzten ca. 20 Jahre ist jedoch das Interesse, dem Verbrechen vorzubeugen, wieder bedeutend gewachsen. Nachfolgend werden einige dieser Entwicklungen aus der Sicht der Regierung beschrieben. Zunächst werden Verbrechensvorbeugung und Verbre-chensbekämpfung gegeneinander abgegrenzt; anschließend werden einige der we-sentlichen Kernansätze der Strategie zur Verbrechensvorbeugung in Großbritannien beschrieben und deren Konsequenzen für die Praxis umrissen.
