Correlation of in vitro and in vivo Studies on the Bioeffects of Mineral Particles

  • Conference paper
Cellular and Molecular Effects of Mineral and Synthetic Dusts and Fibres

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIH,volume 85))

Abstract

The aim of testing mineral dusts on alveolar macrophages in vitro is to identify potentially health damaging bioeffects of the particles on cells. Such studies could be applied to

  • the identification of endangerments to health through emission of new technologic materials

  • bio-monitoring of production procedures involving materials with labile physico-chemical constitution

  • knowledge on the molecular mechanisms of dust-cell interaction and the effectual routes leading to disease
