Abstract
Universities are responsible for undergraduate medical training. The contents are provided for by the law and are the same for the seven medical schools: 3 years of preclinical teaching followed by 4 years of clinical training (theorethical and practical). Until 1982, after these 7 years the medical profession was freely accessible for general practitoners. For students who voted for a career as general practitioner, some medical schools offered a programme with specific training in general practice.
