Factors Influencing Tolerance in Nitrate Therapy: A Review

  • Conference paper
Mononitrate II

Part of the book series: International Boehringer Mannheim Symposia ((BOEHRINGER))

Abstract

First doses of organic nitrates in various forms produce significant hemodynamic, antianginal, and antiischemic effects [1, 2]. However, during long term therapy, tolerance to headaches, circulatory, antianginal, and antiischemic effects develops rapidly [1, 2]. The term tolerance refers to the attenuation of drug effect or complete lack of efficacy during repeated or prolonged exposure.
