Abstract
The extent to which active Ca2+-transport is accompanied by an obligatory exchange with positive charge or, basically, is a purely electrogenic process has not been satisfactorily clarified. We report here some recent observations concerning the role of Ca2+/H+ exchange in active Ca2+-transport by reconstituted sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase.
