Abstract

Some neuro-sensorial troubles of the inner ear have been shown to be possibly related to metabolic disorders, among them hyperlipidemia (Spencer 1973; Martin and Oudot 1977). Except Lidocaine intravenously, no drug has shown real effectiveness in a controlled double-blind placebo trial to treat tinnitus aurium. In a previous pilot study (Torossian and Laredo 1986), fenofibrate, Lipanthyl, a well-known hypolipidemic compound (Blane et al. 1986), has already demonstrated an activity against not only-hyperlipidemia but also against some neuro-sensorial troubles of the inner ear. The aim of the present trial was to evaluate more precisely the effectiveness of fenofibrate on some cochleo-vestibular problems, notably tinnitus and hypacusia, in hyperlipidemic patients.
