Abstract
The main field of application of the KF titration is in the investigation of organic compounds and their commercially viable technical products. These substances are usually sufficiently soluble in methanol although in certain cases the working medium has to be adjusted according to the solubility requirements. Certain functional groups (like mercaptans and aldehydes for example), can cause side reactions which can make the water determination more difficult. The procedure to determine the water content and the disturbances which can take place are mentioned in each section covering these substances. Generally speaking, interferences are more seldom than would be expected from the number of functional groups considered.
