Zusammenfassung

Die Augen sind mit dem Gehirn aufs engste verbunden und geben häufig wichtige diagnostische Hinweise auf Erkrankungen des zentralen Nervensystems. Tatsächlich ist der Sehnerv ein Teil des Gehirns. Intrakranielle Erkrankungen führen häufig zu Sehstörungen infolge Destruktion oder Kompression eines Teils der Sehbahn. Die Hirnnerven III, IV und VI, die die Impulse für Augenbewegungen leiten, können durch zerebrale Erkrankungen betroffen sein. Auch die Hirnnerven V und VII sind eng mit der Funktion der Augen verknüpft.
