Clinical Significance of Carcinofetal Antigens with Special Reference to CEA, AFP, and Related Substances

  • Conference paper
Immunodiagnosis and Immunotherapy of Malignant Tumors

Abstract

From all the antigens which have been found in human tumors in the last 13 years and which are grouped under the common denominator of carcinofetal antigens (CFA) only a few have been sufficiently characterized as to allow clinical trial and application, and even less have reached medical interest. In fact, there are only two which are important, namely, the AFP and the CEA, and therefore they shall be discussed here in greater detail.
