Trials with Poly A:Poly U as Adjuvant Therapy Complementing Surgery in Randomized Patients with Breast Cancer

  • Chapter
Fundamental Aspects of Neoplasia

Abstract

The experimental basis for this trial was discussed by Fanny Lacour, in this volume (Chapter 9). Poly A:poly U, when given after surgery, was found to have a definite inhibitory effect on tumor growth, at least in the case of spontaneous mammary adenocarcinoma in mice and transplantable melanoma in hamsters. As used, this complex had neither toxic nor enhancing effects. Moreover, when poly A:poly U was administered to newborn C3H/He mice, it had a prophylactic effect, and the tumor incidence was significantly lower in the treated group than among the controls.
