Catabolism of Angiotensin II

  • Chapter
Angiotensin

Abstract

It has long been evident that there are substances in blood and tissues which are capable of destroying angiotensin. The effects of temperature, pH changes and dialysis on angiotensin survival in renin assay systems indicated that enzymes were probably involved (Braun-Menendez and Fasciolo, 1939; Page and Helmer, 1940). The generic term “angiotensinase” is used to describe these enzymes, although their specificity is unproven.
