Zusammenfassung

Der Markt für Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien unterliegt traditionell einer hohen Innovationsdynamik. Die Wirtschaftsinformatik stellt dies vor die Herausforderung, regelmäßig neue vermeintliche oder tatsächliche sogenannte Megatrends beobachten und hinsichtlich ihrer tatsächlichen Potentiale beurteilen zu müssen. Cloud Computing stellt eine derartige Entwicklung dar, die in den letzten Jahren zum Teil kontrovers diskutiert wurde. Das Meinungsspektrum reicht von offener Ablehnung über vorsichtige Skepsis bis hin zu übermäßiger Begeisterung ob der revolutionären Potentiale. Für die Wirtschaftsinformatik bietet dieses Spannungsfeld eine sehr gute Ausgangsbasis, neuartige Informationssysteme auf der Basis des Cloud Computing mit zu gestalten und hinsichtlich ihrer tatsächlichen Einsatzmöglichkeiten und Erfolgspotentiale zu evaluieren.
