The Effect of Bradykinin and Kallidin on Smooth Muscle

  • Chapter
Bradykinin, Kallidin and Kallikrein

Abstract

The actions of bradykinin, kallidin, and related substances are, of necessity, assayed primarily on smooth muscle since at present this is the only way to quantitatively assess potency. Thus most of the published literature on these polypeptides refers, in part, to their actions on smooth muscle. This section deals primarily in modes of action on smooth muscle and includes the antagonists and potentiators of the kinins on smooth muscle. Bioassay techniques and activity comparisons with other kinins are covered elsewhere.
