Abstract

The action of kinins on renal water diuresis is variable and is influenced by the route of administration and the animal species employed. Excretion of sodium appears to depend upon the dosage of polypeptide used. Excretion of other electrolytes is increased by bradykinin. Renal blood flow and blood volume are augmented by injection of the kinin through both local and distant cardiovascular events. There are interesting, albeit speculative, neuroendocrine relationships in the regulation of renal functions by steroid and polypeptide hormones, which may involve kinins or kallikrein.
