Mathematisches Modellieren, also die Bearbeitung realitätsbezogener Problemstellungen mithilfe mathematischer Mittel, stellt gegenwärtig ein zentrales, wenn auch in gewissen Bereichen empirisch noch zu wenig beforschtes Thema der Mathematikdidaktik dar (Blum et al. 2007).
