Zusammenfassung

Die Problematik eines Weltbildes, sich also ein „Bild von der Welt“ zu machen, fängt an mit der Frage, was man unter der „Welt“ eigentlich versteht. Unter den verschiedenen wissenschaftlichen Teildisziplinen wird die Antwort zwangsläufig sehr unterschiedlich ausfallen, was man an den Beiträgen zu diesem Band unschwer erkennen wird. Für den Geowissenschaftler scheint die Antwort einfach und naheliegend: Geos, griech. die Erde (Abb. 1), und zwar in ihrer Gesamtheit: nicht nur die „belebte“ Oberfläche, sondern auch das tiefe Innere, nicht nur das Jetzt, sondern auch die Vergangenheit, in der es lange Zeit kein mehrzelliges Leben gab, und schließlich auch die Frage nach dem Anfang, dem Ursprung unseres Heimatplaneten.
