Abstract

Ni3Al fine particles of sizes down to ~10 nm in diameter are clearly visible in the Ni matrix surrounding large cube-shape Ni3Al particles, by channeling BSE imaging at an accelerating voltage of 16.3 kV (Fig. E24.1c), while SE 2 and high-angle BSE images (Figs. E24.1a, b) are obtained at an accelerating voltage of 1.53 kV and at a filtering grid bias voltage of 1.45 kV. The alloy was mirror-finished using a suspension of colloidal silica. The mirror-finished specimen was then given rf-GD sputtering for 8 s at a power of 5W and at an Ar pressure of 1,000Pa using the pulse mode.
