Zusammenfassung

Untersucht man die Kontextbedingungen und Voraussetzungen für politische Führung in den USA, beschäftigt man sich mit einem Hauptuntersuchungsgegenstand der amerikanischen Politikwissenschaft. Deswegen hat die US-amerikanische Leadership-Forschung auch weltweit eine Vorreiterrolle übernommen. Erklärt werden kann diese Fokussierung der Wissenschaft vor allem mit der zentralen Rolle des Präsidenten im politischen System der USA. Allein mit der faktischen Direktwahl des US-Präsidenten und den monokratischen Exekutivstrukturen wird dem Präsidenten ein enormer Handlungsspielraum eingeräumt (Helms 2000: 416).
