Zusammenfassung
Eine der Annahmen der Cultural Studies besagt, dass Medien soziales Wissen hervorbringen, wie sie auch »ein Inventarium an Werten, Bildern, Klassifikationen und Lebensstilen« (Marchart 2008, S. 135) schaffen. Eine kritische Analyse, die eine postkoloniale Perspektive integriert, ist besonders dann sinnvoll, wenn es um Fragen eurozentrischer Repräsentationen etwa in der Werbung oder in Dokumentarfilmen geht, aber auch bei der Analyse einer eingebetteten Kriegsberichterstattung. Und so ist es kaum zufällig, dass die postkoloniale Medienforschung, die lange Zeit nur ein Schattendasein innerhalb der deutschsprachigen Medienforschung führte, heutzutage durchaus ernst genommen wird.
