Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff der Identität kann bis zumindest ins 17. Jahrhundert zurückverfolgt werden (vgl. Robins 2005, S. 172). Dominierend war dabei das, was sich als »Subjekt der Aufklärung« bezeichnen lässt, d. h. eine »Auffassung der menschlichen Person als vollkommen zentriertem und vereinheitlichtem Individuum« (Hall 1994, S. 181). Folgt man an dieser Stelle Stuart Hall, so lassen sich von diesem ersten, frühen Konzept der Identität als »Subjekt der Aufklärung« zwei weitere abgrenzen. Dies ist zweitens das Konzept der Identität als »soziologisches Subjekt« und drittens das Konzept der Identität als »postmodernes Subjekt« (Hall 1994, S. 182).
