Zussamenfassung
In einem beinahe ungezwungen zu nennenden Verhältnis korrespondieren in Hofmannsthals Werk Moderne und Antike. Die Vertrautheit mit mythischen wie historischen Stoffen des Altertums, die früh über das humanistische Gymnasium und die intensive Lektüre griechischer und römischer Autoren vermittelt sind, zeigt sich in deren Aufnahme genreübergreifend in allen Schaffensphasen Hofmannsthals (vgl. Bohnenkamp 1998; Esselborn 1969).
