Die politische Produktivität liberaler Demokratien

Zwischen Triumph und Krise

Zusammenfassung

In welchem Zustand befinden sich die liberalen Demokratien1 nach der Zeitenwende von 1989/90? Diese Leitfrage des Symposiums wird im vorliegenden Beitrag aus dem Blickwinkel der „realistischen“ oder „empirischen“ Demokratietheorie erörtert2. Zwei Forschungsfragen zum Leistungsprofil liberaldemokratischer Regime dienen als Grundlage: Wie steht es um die politische Produktivität der liberalen Demokratien, wenn man diese untereinander und mit nichtdemokratischen Regimen vergleicht? Und inwieweit reicht ihre politische Produktivität dafür aus, große politische, gesellschaftliche und wirtschaftliche Herausforderungen zu meistern?
