Zusammenfassung

Im letzten Viertel des 20. Jahrhunderts wandelte sich das Thema Gewalt in der Familie von einer privaten Frage, die sich zudem infolge selektiver Nichtbeachtung als wenig bekannt erwies, zu einem sozialen Problem, das verstärkt in den Blickpunkt der Fachwelt, Öffentlichkeit und der Politik geriet. Wie wir heute wissen, ist Gewalt im sozialen Nahraum1 weit verbreitet und weder auf eine sozioökonomische Schicht noch auf eine Gesellschaftsform oder zeitliche Periode begrenzt. Wir erkennen heute die sozialen, emotionalen, ökonomischen und gesellschaftlichen Kosten von Gewalt in Intimbeziehungen an. Wir wissen um die Zwänge, denen die Opfer ausgesetzt sind und die ihre Fähigkeit, sich und ihre Familienangehörigen zu schützen, einschränken. Trotz zahlreicher Kontroversen in Forschung, Praxis und Politik zu der Frage, wie das Problem häuslicher Gewalt am besten in ein Kon-zept zu fassen und zu beantworten sei, herrscht in einem Punkt Konsens, nämlich darüber, dass praktisch jede Art und Form von Familie und intimer Beziehung ein Gewaltpotenzial aufweist. Berichte von Forschern und Klinikern zeigen, dass Ge-walt und Missbrauch in sämtlichen Beziehungsformen vorkommen. Obwohl der Titel dieses Beitrags „Gewalt in der Familie“ lautet, schließt er die Behandlung von Gewalt und Misshandlung in anderen intimen Beziehungen mit ein.
