Abstract
Increased excitation within neuronal pain pathways can perpetuate and amplify pain symptoms. Modulation of voltage-gated ion channels by antiepileptic drugs can reduce hyperexcitability and reduce patient symptoms. Presented is an overview of the dosing, adverse event profiles, and monitoring for antiepileptic drugs that have been used to treat pain syndromes.
