Pain

Abstract

The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) defines pain as An unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage, or described in terms of such damage”. Pain is a subjective, unpleasant sensation in the body, which is therefore emotional. Dimensions that contribute to the pain experience are physical, psychological, social and cultural, which support a multidimensional framework for the biopsychosocial experience of pain. Any clinical assessment process must address relevant dimensions of pain in the given setting.
