Abstract
This chapter presents a general background of the present research into cultivating CLIC through pedagogical intervention. It highlights the overall inattention to vocabulary in L2 instruction in different eras, a general neglect of vocabulary instruction for intermediate- or higher-level L2 learners, prevalent memory-oriented pedagogical assumptions and behaviorist vocabulary learning ideology.
