Abstract
During the last three decades, two coincidental epidemiological trends have been observed in westernized countries and, to a lesser extent, in the rest of the world, namely, an increase in the rate of overweight/obese people [1] and an increase in the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) [2] (Fig. 13.1).
