Abstract
The assessment of illness and disease in the deceased necessitates complex, integrated thinking, starting with the external examination—that is, before the invasive examination starts. The features to be considered are arranged into general observations, medical and surgical intervention, scars, identifying marks, signs of disease, injury, and decomposition. Tables and photographs are used to illustrate consideration of common findings.
