Abstract

This paper reports the research efforts of a county health department serving a community of some 650,000 citizens. The department’s officers needed "hard figures" that might answer these five questions: 1) Was the community "health conscious"; 2) was the community interested in health risk appraisal programs; 3) what agency or business did the citizenry believe should offer such a program; 4) would the community respond to the offering of a "self-help" guide to health counselling services available in the county; and 5) what prices would be acceptable to the community in the health appraisal service and the guide?
