Abstract
The hyaline cartilage of the tracheal braces is subject to both physiological and pathological changes, the combinations of which are clearly visible in histological examinations of the trachea. The most important changes concern the physiological aging process, which can take place in a wide range of variations. Degenerative processes apparently encourage ossification of cartilage tissue. In this chapter, histomorphological peculiarities of tracheal braces in intensive care patients are described in detail. The questions of a possible disposition regarding fractures of braces in connection with age and different histological tissue qualities as well as pathological reactive changes to previous traumas and severe concomitant diseases are investigated.
