Abstract

People in Kesen-numa area have roots in its native climate since long ago and have lived deeply contacting with the sea. Since the modern age, especially 1945 after the World War II, a human-centric development of coastal zone has been promoted there and changed the relation between local people and the sea greatly. This chapter discusses on the problem that the huge tsunami in 2011 left: an answer to a question on “what is to live with the sea?” from the viewpoint of local people who experienced the East Japan Great Earthquake and also from the viewpoint of a curator who recorded damages by the disaster.
