Abstract
Ovarian cyclicity is a sensitive indicator of the physiological status of the female. Some parameters of ovarian cycles (length, regularity, etc.) can be influenced by exogenous factors and the exact values of these parameters can be reliable criteria for action efficiency. Some potential effectors of ovarian cycle parameters have been identified in a number of mammalian species, including humans (McClintock, 1971, 1983, 1984; Russell, Switz and Thompson, 1980; Cutler, Preti, Huggins, Garcia and Lowrey, 1986; Preti, Cutler, Huggins, Garcia and Lowley, 1986). Apparently, ovarian cycle parameters can be drastically changed by chemical cues originating from both male and female conspecifics. Nevertheless, knowledge about the chemical signals that influence ovarian cyclicity is quite rare.
