Abstract
Assessment of the relationship between the appearance of clinical symptoms, and the objective assessment of an antigen-induced irregularity in tissue response, is the purpose of all tests carried out on patients suffering from the manifestations of the allergic syndrome. Evaluation of this irregularity depends, in every test, on challenge of a target tissue with the specific antigen responsible for ultimate production of the clinical symptoms. The resultant physiopathological changes as manifested by reduction in pulmonary volume and/or diminution in nasal free air-way following direct antigen challenge test, change in character of the stools following challenge with lactose in milk protein sensitivity, or frequency and intensity of hay fever symptoms as assessed by the patient, provide objective measurements of the intensity of the antigen antibody reaction in the tissues containing the specific antibodies.
