Fungalbionics: A New Concept of the Etiology of Gout, Hyperuricemia and their Related Diseases

  • Chapter
Purine and Pyrimidine Metabolism in Man VI

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 253A))

Abstract

Fungalbionics implicates fungi/fungal metabolites as the cause of gout, hyperuricemia and their related diseases. These diseases are characterized by the presence of two distinctively different findings (detailed in Tables 1 and 2):

  1. 1.

    Fungal-derived metabolites in extra-cellular compartments,

  2. 2.

    Fungal structure/host immunoresponsive-type tissue lesions.
