Abstract

The management of estuaries, and the effective and economic control of pollution in estuaries, has, in common with management generally, five major requirements. These areĀ¦ clearly defined objectives, technological capability, and a method of measuring performance in cost-effectiveness terms, a firm resolve to meet defined responsibilities in full and possession of effective executive powers. This paper sets out to critically examine how estuarine management has developed in relation to each of these components and to assess future prospects for continuing improvement.
