Abstract

Delivery (transfection) of polynucleotides including DNA into eukaryotic cells mediated by liposomes and/or cationic lipids is increasingly studied by various research groups (Behr, 1994; Brigham and Schreier, 1993; Felgner and Ringold, 1989; Felgner, 1993; Gao and Huang, 1993; Gao and Huang, 1995; Herrmann, 1996) as a valuable alternative to viral methods. Various cationic lipids (Akao et al, 1991a, b; Behr, et al, 1989; Bennett et al, 1995; Farhood et al, 1992; Felgner et al, 1987; Gao and Huang, 1991; Leventis and Silvius, 1990; Trubetskoy et al, 1992; Zhou et al, 1991) with or without phospholipid additives were employed for this purpose.
