Introduction to CNS Intraoperative Cytopathology

  • Chapter
  • First Online:
Central Nervous System Intraoperative Cytopathology

Abstract

Despite technologic advances in neuroradiology and neurosurgery, intraoperative consultation is essential for evaluating CNS lesions and providing firm grounds for decision making and guide therapeutic management of patients with CNS lesions. Cytology is a rapid diagnostic modality with >90 % diagnostic accuracy.
