Abstract
The story of an important event, such as the 6th World Computer Chess Championship, can be told from many points of view. From the scientific standpoint, the competitive results of the tournament and the papers presented at the accompanying Workshop best measure the scientific stature of the event. The participants measure the tournament in terms of their program’s success and how much they enjoyed themselves. For the organizers, the costs, publicity and attendance of the event are their metrics. And, of course, from the audience’s point of view, the event must be entertaining.
