Abstract

Recent evidence obtained from mouse T cell clones grown in vitro, has demonstrated that heterogeneity may exist in the helper, or Lyt-1+, L3T4+, Lyt-2-, population of T cells (1,2). We have shown that the patterns of lymphokine synthesis of stimulated T cell clones allow separation of clones into two major groups, synthesizing different sets of lymphokines. There are profound differences in the effector functions of the two types of T cell, mediated, at least in part, by these lymphokines.
