Abstract
In this chapter, the general concepts and techniques used in NMR imaging will be reviewed and an overview provided of the various types of experiment that can be performed to yield different sorts of information. The details of MRI involved, for example, in the two dimensional Fourier (see chapter by Bothner-By) or spin warp technique (see chapter by Lowe), are presented elsewhere in this volume. Here we emphasize that NMR images of several different types can be produced, and the practical roles of some of these have not yet been clearly defined.
