Abstract

Biliary surgery has developed rapidly with the advent of laparoscopic procedures, which have led to a plethora of minimally invasive techniques. The management of biliary calculi using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and laparoscopic transcystic duct exploration techniques, coupled with radiological interventional methods, has meant that many patients can often be treated more quickly with shorter hospital stays and earlier return to their activities. This chapter aims to provide useful information on complications, risks, and consequences related to biliary surgery. For other associated procedures, refer to the relevant chapter and volume.
