Abstract
I am entranced by sound visualizers, those blurs of shapes, colors, and animations that can be seen in Windows Media Player and iTunes. There is something so captivating about the often organic visuals immediately reacting to the highs and lows of the music, responding to it in much the same way as humans on a dance floor, that I can sit and watch song after song just to see how each is interpreted. I don’t know whether the visualizers are the computer age’s version of the classical sirens that lured sailors to crash upon the rocks, but I do know I should probably never sail a ship while my MP3s play on my laptop just in case.
