Abstract
This discussion traces some of the most salient and enduring philosophies, political premises, and thinkers underlying the contemporary African-centred movement. These are connected to contemporary efforts to realize African-centred schooling in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Highlighting a broad range of African contributions to contemporary history from the 1600s to the present day, the chapter concludes with practical strategies for engagement of students with these issues.
