Abstract

This chapter explores the concepts of productivity, profitability and performance. It initially examines the need to manage productivity and profitability if the means by which growth is to be achieved are realised cost-effectively. To do this we review the basic requirements for cash and profit generation and consider how the retail business might best be managed to provide the necessary resources.
